1. WHAT DID LIFE LOOK LIKE BEFORE YOU FOCUSED ON CONSISTENCY ON NUTRITION AND FITNESS?
Growing up I lived a pretty active lifestyle. I have a background in dance, ranging from studio classes to high school dance team. When I graduated college, I came back to my hometown and coached my alma mater’s dance team. After I met my husband I moved to Colorado and spent time skiing in the mountains. Then came the children…. I was a busy mom of two little ones. Life as a stay home parent can be isolating at times. I was loving my new role as a mom, but missing my active lifestyle. I knew something needed to change for both my physical, mental and emotional well being.
2. What made you decide to make a change?
After moving to Rosemount with two little ones (we now have 3) I started joining different fitness classes to meet more people in the area. Unfortunately, I wasn’t making new pals and I wasn’t holding myself accountable to sticking with the classes I was trying. I saw a poster for a new dance class – Oula. Something new and exciting. I gave it a shot. Little did I know, this was about to change my life! Oula was a breath of fresh air. Not only was the music and movement exactly what my body needed, but the community was incredibly welcoming. I felt free in my body, and excited to come to class. I started taking classes all around the Twin Cities; 5-6 days a week I was dancing with new friends! I couldn’t believe how amazing it made me feel. Two months later I was signed up to become an instructor. That was 7 years ago.
3. What has changed (attitude, energy, weight, habits, priorities, race times, blood work, confidence, etc.?)
Oula has encouraged me to come as I am, to show up for myself and to be proud of the person I have become. After finding this format and making it a part of my life I am a better mother, wife, friend, instructor, and community member. I look forward to working out. I love how it makes me feel, that high after class is immeasurable. As I said before, the community is incredibly welcoming and supportive. Having a fitness family that holds space for one another through music and movement is so cathartic. I love sharing that with others, it feels fantastic. Thank you for welcoming me into The Warehouse Family!
I also love modeling this self care for my children. They see how I show up for myself and are beginning to understand how important it is to take care of ourselves both mentally and physically.
