November 2017

What did life look like before you focused consistently on nutrition and fitness?

I’ve always had fitness as part of my life, just not always consistently. At a young age I set a goal that I was going to run a marathon at least once in every decade. I would train for a run then stop for awhile. In my 20’s I trained for 5 marathons plus several 1/2 marathons. Then 30’s came and so did the decision to start a family. So my time for running was less and less. I did do a couple shorter races one being a 10 miler last Fall. On the nutrition side I’ve never been a great eater.

What made you decide to make a change?

My neighbor knew that I liked running and last November invited me to the Warehouse for a Combat HIIT class. I was hooked. Over time I ventured out into other classes then started talking with Nickie on nutrition. Nutrition is still a struggle at times but it does make a difference in how I feel.

What has changed (race times, blood work, attitude, etc)?

Last winter I started feeling confident that I could do longer races again and more then one. This year so far I have done a 10K, 1/2 marathon and most recently TC 10 miler. I ran a different 10 miler in 2016 (only race that year) and my TC time this year was 9 minutes faster. I have never been able to keep my average pace under 10 minute miles and I finally did it! I have decided that TC marathon 2018 will be my next goal. It marks 10 years since I last did it.
