What did life look like before you focused consistently on nutrition and fitness?

I was busy with our two kids. Between volleyball, football, basketball, baseball and year round softball…we always had somewhere to be. In addition to all that, I also tried to volunteer as much as possible. I have struggled with back pain on and off since I was a teenager and had back surgery several years ago for two bulging discs. I belonged to the Grove fitness center 10 years ago, but ended up quitting after I lost my brother in a motorcycle accident. With all of this, I had no energy or desire to make it to the gym.

What made you decide to make a change?

A year ago, my good friend Rhonda had a free month pass and asked if I would like to try out The Warehouse with her.  It had been several years since I worked out, but what did I have to lose?
A few days later we were at Leprechaun Days and ran into Korina. I didn’t know her very well at the time but Rhonda told her I was going to check out The Warehouse with her. We decided that night  to keep each other accountable.  I thought that all sounded great after a few drinks but also thought “What have I gotten myself into?”
Needless to say after my first class I loved it!

What has changed (race times, blood work, attitude, etc)?

For me, it’s really been about self-care. I was too busy taking care of others to put myself first. In addition to being a busy mom, I am a daycare provider which keeps me very busy. Recenlty with both kids off to college and me with an empty nest for the first time;  I  finally had time for myself.
Since starting, I have gained strength back and don’t need to live on Ibuprofen for my back pain. I also have more energy and instead of a Diet Coke pick me up in the afternoon,  I drink Shakeology and Energize.
It also has been very fun working out with my daughter this summer. She is excited to teach some new moves in her fitness class at the Wellness Center at UND. She has one more semester of college and will be back to be my A.M. workout partner. I have finally found a routine in my workouts and Shakology. I saw this quote the other day.   “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily.  The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.”
Next step for me is to really focus on nutrition. I know I will have great support with Nickie.
Thank you Nickie and The Warehouse team for keeping me motivated to live a healthier life. Even though I am sure you see the eye rolls that I give… those are good eye rolls. I really enjoy going to class and miss it on days I don’t go.  Most importantly, I don’t make excuses not to go anymore.
